I think it is easy to forget the fragility of life is not dependent on size. With such a great undertaking comes great reward, but also great risk. I am so very pleased that, in this instance, all has come good. Time, determination, and prayer, as well as support, have won the day. I must not forget to add that without Moyo's trust in those around her, no matter the resources, money or care, she'd not have had the will or power to survive. They do such wonderful work to engender such trust. Such sentient beings, all sentient beings, deserve such kindness, and we can all, in our way, do our bit at home and abroad. Thank you so much for making the donation, David. ๐Ÿ’™

What a shame this had to happen, but sounds like a positive ending. If they know how the injuries happened, hopefully they can guard against it happening to other elephants on future transfer trips. Congratulations David on the $5,000 donation. The right decision. As you pointed out, when we are there in August the Elephant Nursery in Harare is too far away, but perhaps Panda Masuie is close enough for a visit on the way into Vic Falls? ........ LOL

David, I watched again the video clip included in this post. of Maru ambling across to you sitting on your rock. it was no accident he had a need to communicate. At any time, because of his huge size, he could have come and knocked you off that rock and stomped on you, but instead he came and touched you with his trunk in gentle communication.

This is what this is all about. You forwarding a donation at a time much needed, is uplifting, not only for Roxy and team, but directly benefiting our elephant family too. I wish I could do more.

David, Koala and all your wonderful subscribers ... gratitude indeed. Your thoughts, words and actions have been an incredible balm to my shattered heart during this most miserable of journeys. I have learnt much about myself, but have also questioned my faith, beliefs and ethics. Sometimes positively, sometimes in a total stew! However, the biggest lesson for me has been that not only do I need Moyo, but Moyo also needs me. Iโ€™ve long wondered if my connection with her was all in my head and if my imagination was getting the better of me. However, a recent event has changed this thought process dramatically and I can now say, with total confidence, that we need and thrive in each other. Moyo is doing much better this week, after a nasty tumble in mood and health last week. This time, I believe weโ€™ve reached the pinnacle and now we move into recovery. Again, my profound thanks and appreciation to you all. With love, rox xxx๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ž

That was both fascinating and sad, the team there must be incredibly strong to keep going in that situation. Fingers crossed for Moyo and love to her and all the team there.

Recently I read a wonderful book "An elephant in my kitchen" by Francoise Malby-Anthony which made me very aware of the horrors caused by poachers going after elephants and rhinos and how the orphaned youngsters struggle to forget the horrors they witnessed....
