So much to learn that it is almost too much, but the description of the stone in the disturbed water and then the calm pond is the most revealing to me - it is so simple and explicit. A good lesson to call upon. Thank you.
You are right, Peter, that it's a subtle subject, sometimes likened to a slippery fish - no sooner grasped than slipping away. But listening/reading and thinking really do help arrive at a stable, conceptual understanding which then becomes the focus of meditation - the path we're all on! One that keeps getting better and better!
Excellent - much food for thought. Need a lot of time to grapple with the concepts but feel it's the truth and there's a need to follow. Thanks David. I love your personal sharing and your trust in us all to be mindful and careful of you. And it's true your e-mails always seem to uncannily turn up at the right time. Trish
Words do point to the greater experience! Self and no-self are words. Self as a construct meant very little to me until I experienced moving beyond it into the consciousness of "no-self".
Your ability to write about these things, David, is so important. Thank you for your commitment to the "enlightenment of all beings".
Thank you David for the in-depth and helpful explanation of The Three Wisdoms. Thank you also for sharing your personal and first hand experiences on The Path….I always find them inspiring and encouraging.
Thank you this is so helpful and explains where I am on my path. Happy 2023 the year of the Hare/Rabbit, may it be full of great ideas to help humanity & the Cosmos. Yours in the Dharma Jeni.
“I can still, vividly recall the blow I felt in a bookstore the first time I encountered the concept of “no self.” Lovely description, reminds me when I first randomly read about the 8 jhana states in the Italian Club…this is our potential?! My introduction to emptiness and the “non-self” was a talk by Thubten Gyatso (Dr Adrian Feldmann) and I recall my vigorous dispute. Fascinated and hooked, once understood it eventually led me to pursue it above all else.
Thanks so much for sharing this, Patrick! Shunyata goes against all that we and our society assumes to be true, so that it is indeed shocking - but as you say, our ultimate quest.
Thanks David.....a perfect round up and explanation.......your emails always seem to arrive exactly at the right moment.
My pleasure, Kate. Glad to hear it!
