David, your stories are such a joy to read. Thank you! I'm so happy that you did whatever you did in previous lifetimes that produced such an uplifting author/teacher in this lifetime.
Interesting that you say that Pamela. It took me a while to find my path in this lifetime ... being in the last quarter of the game, it may soon be over!
I think of it as being in the last trimester of a pregnancy, that will result in being delivered into whatever comes next. Regardless, it's still have now and I'm glad our paths have crossed.
David, I love all these “musings” from HHC! This one especially got me to thinking about the influence of our former lives, or the influence of any sentient beings in our former lives or even now - that influence our present life - it’s almost too much to fathom or understand for me, who was raised in a Judeo - Christian environment. But I am enthusiastically reading and leaning! I have been reading and collecting all your books for about ten years now, and just this summer, I decided to re-read all of them as a sort of Buddhism retreat . It has been a wonderful experience to immerse myself again in your writings and to re-visit some specific Buddhist teachings and beliefs. It has been a very grounding experience for me. I love reading other’s comments, and I would say “ditto” to all who have written one this time. I add my thanks and gratitude to you for all your weekly insights and “stories” - I feel as though I know everyone in them personally!
I am truly humbled to hear about the impact of these books Susan. I can claim no ownership of the inisghts themselves - I am merely the conduit for them!
I never thought of karma in this way. It makes sense. I always thought or assumed that someone received an award or promotion, etc. even when other people were equally deserving and accomplished because the universe knew that the person needed it more emotionally. It would help them move to a higher spiritual or emotional level. It is always refreshing to learn a different viewpoint.
Another wonderful story - havent we all been thee - but for me it is the beautiful cat photo - I had two Himalayans fof nearly 20 years and this one brought Shema back into my arms thank you anne sharpen
I love these mouse sized teaching stories. Great photos too. You are sowing good karma seeds around the world. I'm inspired with each post. Living can be simplified to a happy search for opportunities to celebrate and lift up others...life in the pure land! Thank you as always. Kathy
Thanks David for this tid bit. In my previous life I must have been a saint! I am living the life of Riley now - I wake up every morning in a warm, dry bed with clean clothes and a meal to go to. But I need to get my finger out or the next one could be a bit more uncomfortable!!!
Thank you for the update and piccys from the animal trust. Perhaps I should throw some dog collars and leads in with the pencils, books and toys for the trip next month!?
Hi Chris, Thank you very much for your kind message and even kinder offer about the dog collars. Twala is down in Harare, not in Vic Falls, so no need to bring the dog collars. But your spontaneous generosity suggests that your next incarnation may not be so bad!!
Thank you for sharing these bitesize chapters. They are incredible fun, as well as educational. It also makes my heart swell that, in a small way, and through your much greater gift, we are helping others in need.
I did, in the end, find a book published in Dec 22, called: Autism and Buddhist Practice: How Buddhism Can Help Autistic Adults Cultivate Wellbeing, by Chris Jarrell. It is a great read and sheds much light on the problems many autistic adults face seeking Dharma teaching or even just entering into a lay sangha community. Also, guidance for Buddhist teachers and centre managers. Oh, for a Geshe Wangpo and temple near me! Here's a link for you: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1839971576?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Many thanks, Trisha. The Buddhist view is that karma is the reason why we are forced to experience reality the way that we do.
