Before diving into this weekend’s post, just a couple of words about my new book The Dalai Lama’s Cat & The Claw of Attraction as it appears on Amazon.
Thank you for this outline! It is helpful sometimes to read through the whole recipe and even page through the cookbook to get the context and a deeper appreciation of the dharma treats offered! How old is that baby elephant? He must be an infant, he’s so tiny in elephant terms!
Thank you so much, Cathy, I don't know how old he is, but looking at his side I'd guess under a year, and probably only a few months. I know that at four weeks they tend to be about three feet high and weigh about 100kgs.
I simply delight in the rich new characters and lavish teachings of the newest book. What an extraordinary experience. Your imagination is amazing, what a gift! Thank you.
A young man I mentor asked about how he could begin to learn about Buddhism. I recommended the first book of the Dalai Lama cat series among others.
My friend, who is joining me on your next Mindful Safari, had her book club read the first book and, of course, they all loved it.
You enrich so many with your stories. I love all your books. Again, thanks. 🙏
Thank you for writing this week’s post, David. It helped me understand the progression of the Buddhist approach to life in this plain. Really helped. . . Just received my print copy of Claw and am engrossed in it of course. I love that cat!! The way you propel the action of the book thru her personality is priceless. I just hate to think of little HHC eventually having to make her own transition, but creative mind that you have, I know you’ll think of a way and it will be priceless too! Please keep it up. We all just love it!
I so appreciate the gift of your writings - this week, as always, opens my mind at a level too deep for me to put into words at this point. The Claw of Attraction is perhaps your best book in the HHC series - both entertaining and profoundly insightful. I'll put a review on Amazon as soon as I finish it. It's hard to decisively say "best" without going back and rereading the other books, which I intend to do. Your description here of the Path to Enlightenment is supporting my mental map of where I've been and where I'm going. In fact, I may try to sketch it out in the form (or forms) of a map or path. And I LOVE Elliott.
Thank you so much for your most generous response to Claw of Attraction, and my writing in general, Janice. In Claw I certainly do tackle more profound subjects than in previous books in the series. This is partly because I want to write about deeper subjects, and also because I feel that readers who have stayed with the series this far are also ready for it. Warmest withes. David
Oh David.....thank you so much for your teachings 🙏 I was fortunate indeed to have found an FPMT center where I was able to get a good, sound basis during the 7yrs I was there before moving away to Costa Rica. Whereas there IS a center here that follows the Mahayana tradition, it is far away. But, I am still able to follow the teachings of my Geshe-la through live streaming. And your teaching through your stories, and posts have been MOST helpful in keeping me on track!
Thank so much for this article today! What a great review it is for me, and, I think a great beginning for others also. 🙏❤🙏
Many thanks Mariane. How fortunate you are for tyhose 7 years of groundwork at FPMT. Although online streaming can't equal personal presence, how fortunate we are to have it available at all!
Thank you for the photo of sweet Elliott. May he be happy and healthy and feel safety and love all around him.
Quite so, Ann, and may all other sentient beings feel likewise.

This is a very intense post, David and one I would like to re-read in detail. Also to purchase The Dalai Lama's book.
In the meantime, thank you so much for the image of trusting and precious little Elliott. He's delicious...

I wish I could put my arms around Elliott and give him a big kiss. We all need love and our families and friends.
So true, Trisha!
Absolutely gorgeous, I'm so happy to be a part of this, even though my part is only small.
Lots of small parts are coming together for a beautiful result, thank you Hilde!
Dear sweet brave Elliot. How unimaginably sad to have such devastation of his family.
Bless the wonderful people of the elephant orphanage for giving him love and care.
May he now feel safe and loved for all of his life
Yes, Margaret, we all hope the very best for these little ones whose start in life has been so traumatic.
Such a cute little elephant! He's already had much suffering so I wish him much happiness from now on ❤️
Indeed - thank you Maxine!
