I am happy to be sharing this eight minute video as we lead up to the second anniversary of this newsletter!
For those of you who don’t have time to watch, key take-outs are:
The Dalai Lama’s Cat: Buddhist Wisdom & Compassion started on Substack in March 2022;
I had two main objectives: to share the Dharma in a meaningful way that can’t be done on social media, and to fundraise for deserving causes;
Since then I’ve posted every Saturday, and we have collectively raised and donated just over $80,000, mainly to the four charities listed at the bottom my posts;
With your support we can continue to do good, and reach a donation target of $100k by half way through this year;
None of this would be possible without your support, for which I am profoundly grateful.
Life is short, our hold on it is tenuous, and we can’t take anything for granted. In light of this, extracting the maximum value from our life, for others’ sake as well as our own, is our shared, highest purpose.
What we are doing here as a community in unique and very special. We impact on so many beings in an incredibly positive way. May be it be a cause for us all to attain complete and perfect enlightenment!
About half the money readers help me raise through subscriptions goes to the following four charities. Feel free to click on the underlined links to read more about them:
Wild is Life - home to endangered wildlife and the Zimbabwe Elephant Nursery; Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary - supporting indigenous animals as well as pets in extremely disadvantaged communities; Dongyu Gyatsal Ling Nunnery - supporting Buddhist nuns from the Himalaya regions; Gaden Relief - supporting Buddhist communities in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and India.
Thank you for creating this community and this wonderful "bubble" of weekly joy in what you write and the generosity that results. While it is all an interconnected, dependent arising, certainly without your heartfelt efforts this would not exist. A deep bow of gratitude .
I feel so blessed to be a part of this amazing community. Thank you David, for your generosity, your dedication, your teachings. Always with loving awareness. My warmest congratulations on 2 years.
I also want to say thank you to my fellow community members, who I am continually learning many wonderful things from. I have never been on social media, being shy and private, but this has been a very positive experience. I am uplifted and more dedicated to my practice, because this space exists. Much love to all.
