Just as your stories about HHC evoke a kind of movie in my mind when I read them (and indeed all your stories!!) reading this one I could see it in my mind and almost feel the diminishing heat of the day as everyone gathered, the dusty sand under my feet and the warmth and love. Apart from anything else l feel this story, however it comes out, needs to be told. It is bigger than all of us and you and your furry friend are the ones to do it. Having read many books on the Essenes and the background/ beginnings as well as the life of Jeshua, I would so value your continued story of Mary Magdalen through her cat. I loved the Dalai Lama's cat stories and read and re-read them through a challenging time in my life. The teachings sustained and delighted me and I have recommended them to many. With respect, I want to point out we've had quite enough of "alpha male" perspective in religion & spirituality. This is IMO a major contributor to the gospel of Mary attracting so much attention.
And of course most mystical writings are gender neutral, and zooming out to an ultimate perspective, gender isn't useful in this realm. But we are in human bodies, and that can't be ignored. IMO.
What a brilliant and moving evocation, David! I can feel I am right there in eager anticipation. And the very best is it promises more great things to come. Of course you must go on, and you have already hinted at so many deep and complex themes to pursue. I love how you saved a seat for us and how you have adroitly stepped out of the narrowness of the Biblical story and expanded it as the earliest church was trying to do before the canon was closed. You have such a unique perspective to contribute to this millennia-old conversation and I can't wait. HHC must be so proud....
